Why Join A Horse & Julep Racing Ownership Club

We believe your interactions with the most amazing thoroughbred seasons and scenery, coupled with the community you build through our owner meetups, will prove to be so rich that racing and winning on national stages will be icing on the cake compared to the experiences prior to race day with Horse & Julep.  We feel we have a winning combination of opportunities that not many people will ever have the opportunity to participate in. Come see where derby winners were born, raised, and reside. Come see the beauty of the quaint communities of these champions and meet the people that make caring for these champions their life's work. Come join Horse & Julep Racing Club. While Horse & Julep Clubs may come in many shapes and sizes, our initial ownership club will be our Horse & Julep  Club Ownership Club that, when fully subscribed, will make purchases as a LLC Ownership Club of weanlings during the months of January and February.

2022 Weanling Club Venture

One of the areas that sets the venture from the others is our timeline for acquisition and the opportunity for exposure to different locations it affords us. We will acquire our thoroughbreds as weanlings or "short yearlings" at public auction or through private purchase primarily between the months of January and February, a few months after the thoroughbred foal has been weaned.  Fewer end users (people who actually race the horses) purchase weanlings, choosing rather to wait until the horse becomes a yearling to purchase, taking it immediately to a training facility to learn to be a racehorse, mostly outside Kentucky.  Buying a weanling is more affordable as there is less of a buying pool and you are buying less of a finished product, but as an added benefit, it gives us approximately 6 to 9 months of initial ownership that will 1) allow the weanlings to develop on some of the best land in the world for developing thoroughbred stock, and 2) allows us to introduce our members to unique locations that raise these thoroughbreds, and the land and people that rear them.  We’ll plan a weekend to gather the members and show them our favorites in these areas and of course, the horses.

Each club formation will raise $250,000 for both the purchase of up to 3 "short yearlings" at public auction during the 2022 November Sale Season starting 11/1/2022 or via private purchase and the projected expenses of the horses for a 2 year period until roughly January 1st 2023 (the start of their 3 Year Old Year).  Estimated expenses starting January 1st, 2025, will be collected one quarter ahead.  Earnings will be dispersed regularly provided there is at least 1 quarters worth of expenses in reserves.  A breakdown of expense estimations will be provided  to each member with the ownership club LLC contract.  The total $250,000 capital raise will be divided in 100 equal shares. We expect there to be approximately 20 to 30 total partners, depending on how many shares each partner would like, but likely no more than 40 partners.  Upon raising of the funds, an LLC shall be created that will then make the purchases and conduct business.  The purchases will be made by the LLC Manager, on recommendation of our agents.  The Weanling Club investment group will enjoy no purchase markups of any kind, no monthly management fees of any kind, only a performance incentive of 10% of any winnings, and commissions on any horse sales. The manager only earn as the club earns.  Find complete details in ownership club agreement. Share options are as follows:

  • 10 Shares = $25,000

  • 8 Shares = $20,000

  • 7 Shares = $17,500

  • 6 Shares = $15,000

  • 5 Shares = $12,500

  • 4 Shares = $10,000

  • 3 Shares = $7,500

  • 2 Shares = $5,000 *(Only available to those who've never been in a horse partnership)

The Horse Purchases

We believe a target of 3 horses in a grouping represent strong diversification and brings the best opportunity for success. We also believe there is serious talent available for purchase at value price points.   In 2020 through November 25th, 409 open stakes races have been run in North the US & Canada with 276 of those stakes races being won by 206 horses who went for sale via public auction (the remainder were never offered at public auction).  Of those 206 horses who were for sale who won stakes races in 2020, 51 (25%) had the auction hammer fall for a price of $40,000 or less with the average hammer price of those 51 horses being $16,146.  Those 51 horses accounted for 65 stakes wins year-to-date in 2020, 42 of those being Graded Stakes Races (the highest class of races), for stakes wins worth over $17 Million Dollars or an average win purse of $263,000.  Just a few of those 51 horses include:

  • MUCHO GUSTO winner of the $3 Million Pegasus, auction price $14k at Keeneland January

  • SHEDARESTHEDEVIL, winner of the $1.25 Million KY Oaks, auction price $20k at Kee Sept

  • SWISS SKYDIVER, winner of the $1 Million Preakness, auction price $35k at Kee Sept

Investments in a horse racing ownership club should be for accredited investors only.  Do not invest funds you cannot afford to lose. While it is possible our ownership clubs may receive returns on their investments, the investment should ultimately be considered an investment in the experiences with the people and places associated with thoroughbred champions.  This website does not sell securities. See Club LLC agreement for full details.
